3 Grammy awards, 14 albums, 8 live albums, 3.4 billion song downloads and dozens of world hits – that’s the condensed story of US band Toto, founded in 1977. The band from California are one of the few groups from the 1970s to have survived the changing trends and styles whilst remaining relevant and unrelentingly successful.
Toto started out with David Paich and Jeff Porcaro, with guitarist/singer Steve Lukhater joining later on, who as one of the world’s most sought-after session musicians has played with Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Eddie Van Halen, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Elton John, Quincy Jones, Al Di Meola, Eric Clapton, Cher and Lionel Richie, among others.
Toto’s first album came out in 1978, followed by countless other excellent releases. Their best-known songs including Africa, Hold the Line, Rosanna, I'll Be Over You or even Georgy Porgy are still firm fixtures on radio playlists even today.
Combining elements of pop, soul, funk, progressive rock and hard rock, R&B, blues and jazz into their music, they have sold more than 40 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2009.
Although Toto decided to break up in 2008, they got back together in 2010. They have performed on almost every major stage in the world, touring the globe. The band’s founder Jeff Porcaro passed away in 1992, but Toto continue to dedicate every performance to the musician. It will be the same in Veszprém, when Toto led by Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams will be playing a selection of the band’s greatest hits for the audience.
